Wahchella Falls

My friend Jennie and I went for a hike in the Columbia Gorge yesterday. Portland had a beautiful weekend. Wahchella Falls is a short and gorgeous hike, remarkably it wasn't too crowded.

Rocky Knob

Mom, Dad, and I went for a day hike at Rocky Knob. It's an eleven mile loop just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. We had cool and comfortable weather, just escaping any major rain.

Shaving horse

On a recent trip to Virginia, my dad and I made a shaving horse. Dad turned the legs and several people have commented they look like horse hooves. I followed a project plan from a chair-building book I have.

On a future trip I plan to enjoy using the shaving horse and eventually make some fine chairs, however I'm not currently accepting commissions for your dining room set of Windsors.

Workbench

In my one bedroom apartment I've chosen to have a workshop in my bedroom and sleep on a futon couch in the living room. I've enjoyed having a project/work room. My biggest project so far has been to build a workbench. I built this bench last summer out of framing lumber.

On the end I installed a Veritas twin-screw vise which has worked beautifully. You can also see my favorite Japanese saw in action.

Lots going on

I recently visited my parents' home near Floyd, Virginia for a family vacation. While I was there, with some help from my dad who turned the legs, I built a shaving horse. This inspired me to also post some pictures of my workbench at home.

Besides staying busy in the workshop I went for a hike on Rocky Knob with my parents. Back in Portland we've been having great weather and I went for a hike at Wahclella Falls in the Columbia Gorge yesterday.
